ZAPRUDER is the collective name that signs all audiovisual production and happenings conceived and directed by visual artists David Zamagni (Rimini, 1971) and Nadia Ranocchi (Rimini, 1973). Their name is derived from the sharpshooter Abraham Zapruder, who caught Kennedy’s assassination on camera.
Their practice focuses primarily on the problematic relation between language and media, spanning across film set, performance, acoustics and sculpture. In 2000, together with Monaldo Moretti, they founded Zapruder filmmakersgroup, a collective of audiovisual production and research based in Roncofreddo - town in the hills of Emilia Romagna - where over the years the working team that cooperates in Zapruder's projects, from set to postproduction, has grown and consolidated. From 2005 to 2011 they explored stereoscopic techniques applied to digital medium, developing tactile and immersive projects named "Chamber Cinema". In its multiple experiential forms, Zapruder's work displays an original visual device defined by an editing practice that privileges non-linear narration, manifesting many affinities with "free association". In 2011, Zapruder’s work received the 3D Persol Award at the Venice Film Festival. In 2016, Zapruder was awarded the MAXXI Prize for Contemporary Art with "Zeus Machine. Salita all'Olimpo". In 2020 they took part in the Berlin International Film Festival - Berlinale with the film cycle dedicated to myth, "Zeus Machine. L'Invincibile" that was presented for the first time in its entirety.
