Artopia is participating at Artefiera in the section by invitation “Fotografia e immagine in movimento”, curated by Giangavino Pazzola, with a selection of works by the Belgian artist Eva L'Hoest (Liège, 1991) and the two Italian artists Rachele Maistrello (Vittorio Veneto, 1986) and Giacomo Segantin (Abano Terme, 1995).

 

Trait d'union of the works presented in the stand is a critical reinterpretation of the space, both human and natural, through the introduction of heterogeneous elements or techniques. Indeed, in Segantin's works, the chromatic invasion of phytolacca, a vernacular dyeing technique, subverts the classical 19th-century representation of a domesticated and decorative nature. Maistrello also intervenes directly in the images. They are empty environments, without human presence such as offices, waiting rooms, and basements, those into which the artist physically introduces colourful and disorienting silhouettes, activating visual short circuits and transforming these anonymous spaces into places of dreams. Finally, the fictional landscapes, created by Eva L'Hoest and inspired by natural or domestic contexts, are disrupted by technical processes of image manipulation such as 3D scans or modelling. In this way, the artist creates parallels between ancestral cults and contemporary emergencies, entrusting nature with the task of a possible regeneration.
